Information about the admissions process for students wishing to join the school in the Sixth Form is available at the foot of the page. Students currently at DCGS should follow the instructions sent home.
Here is an introductory video from Mr Atkinson (Headmaster) and Mr Colquhoun (Director of Sixth Form)
See what went on at DCGS in the last academic year by dipping into our school magazine, Ad Astra.
In November 2019 the school was inspected by OFSTED under their brand new, and more rigorous, framework. We were delighted to receive Outstanding across all categories. One of the areas that was specifically looked at was the Sixth Form and in their comments the inspectors recognised that the Challoner’s Baccalaureate curriculum model was very strong and was implemented very effectively across the school, delivering academic excellence and producing caring citizens. The quality of teaching seen in Sixth Form lessons was very high, with excellent demonstration of subject expertise.

The recent expansion of the Sixth Form to admit girls has been hugely successful. The quality of education in the Sixth Form is exceptional, enabling all students to thrive. Sixth-formers play a full role in school life, with many having significant leadership responsibilities. In addition, many students actively support the local community. Students are supported well to manage their own time and work independently. Careers education is an important part of the curriculum. Students are well informed about different career pathways and future study options. Over four fifths of sixth-formers gain access to their first choice of the top universities either in the UK or abroad.
Sasha Lomax, our Deputy School Captain, shares her experiences of joining the school in the video below
When we survey the students in our Sixth Form students the number one comment they have is about the enthusiasm, knowledge and kindness of the teaching staff here at DCGS. To help give you a feel for this, alongside advice on exactly what each subject involves, we have a number of videos below from Subject Leaders as well as Student Experience from our Class of 2020 students and an Information Sheet.
As part of the Challoners Baccalaureate students all take part in Team Projects. At the start of Year 12, and one of the highlights of the Sixth Form, is the London Challenge (video here from 2019). Sadly this could not take place this year, so instead, we set students the challenge of producing videos on a range of topic areas. We hope that these give you a sense of how the students view the Sixth Form at the early stage of their time with us.
GENERAL: To help get an idea of the different areas of the school we have a Tour as well as a video showing a Day in the Life of a Sixth Former. All students follow the Challoner’s Baccalaureate and you can get a student view here. We pride ourselves on the Pastoral Support available to support students during their time with us and then some students share their Best Experiences so far. We are hugely proud of our Duke of Edinburgh programme and you can hear more about this from our student leaders here.
SUBJECT FOCUS: Here are a selection of videos that the Year 12 students have made on a number of the subjects that are offered in the Sixth Form: Art & Graphics, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Geography, German, Maths, Music, RS, Spanish, EPQ
We hope that the information here is able to answer the majority of questions that you have, however if there is anything that you would like to ask then please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
For advice on the Admissions process for students looking to join DCGS in the Sixth Form please see the video here from our Director of Sixth Form, Mr Colquhoun.
Being a popular and successful school, DCGS receives a large number of applications to join the Sixth Form each year, and we welcome these applications. If you are interested, you may wish to read the Sixth Form section of our Admissions Policy to understand our entry requirements and how we make offers for places in the Sixth Form. All applications will be considered in due course. Please do not follow up your application by contacting the school unless you have a specific and urgent question. All offers given at that time are conditional, meaning they are reliant upon candidates achieving particular results in their GCSEs. Further details about these conditions would accompany any offer that is made.
We hope that you have found the information here useful in giving you an insight into life in the Sixth Form at DCGS. If you would like to make an application to join us in September 2021, please complete the online Data Collection Form. The deadline for submission is 02 December 2020.Email: Sixth Form admissions
