Appeals

If your child is refused a grammar school place, you can appeal, but success is rare and requires strong evidence of exceptional circumstances, such as medical, social, or educational reasons, or demonstration that your child is of grammar school ability

  • You can appeal a refusal of a grammar school place after receiving the decision letter.
  • You can only appeal once within the academic year.
  • The admission authority must allow you at least 20 school days to appeal from when they send the decision letter. They will also set a deadline for submitting information and evidence.
  • The admission authority must give you at least 10 school days' notice of the hearing.

To request an appeal or if you require any further information about the appeal process please email the Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel at appealsclerk@challoners.org

Appeals information for 2026 will be updated in due course.
