Horseshoe Lake for Year 8
As a break from the classroom, Year 8 went on a trip to Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre in Sandhurst on the 21st of May. The day was packed with outdoor games to see how well everyone could work together, balance, and try to stay dry. It started on the grass with some team games. On the Beam Balance, the students had to shuffle and squeeze everyone onto one narrow log without anyone falling off into the woodchips. Right next to it was the Spider’s Web game, which was a big grid of green and black ropes. Everyone was laughing as students tried to crawl through the gaps without touching the strings.
The biggest challenge was the Raft Building. Teams were given giant, plastic, blue barrels, wooden logs, and ropes to build their own boats. Instructors helped them tie the knots tight so the rafts wouldn't fall apart. Amazingly, the rafts floated really well for most groups, and the teams climbed on to paddle around the big orange buoys. They also did Dragon Boating, cramming into massive, long red boats. To make the boat move, everyone had to paddle at the exact same time, which meant a lot of loud shouting to keep the rhythm. To finish the day, lots of students tried Stand-Up Paddleboards. A few people managed to stand up, but loads of others lost their balance and fell straight into the cold lake, making it a brilliant end to the trip.
