James Hernandez: Former Challoner's to Olympic Performer
Jumps, spins and step sequences are all technical skills vital to a successful figure skating performance - all of which were displayed in a beautiful performance by Phebe Bekker and James Hernandez, representing Great Britain at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Hernandez is an alumnus of Dr Challoner’s Grammar School; now aged 24, he is a three-time British national silver medalist.
In February, Hernandez and Bekker competed in Milan for their Olympic debut and finished 17th out of 19 pairs. Their 90s-inspired George Michael medley scored 72.456, allowing them to qualify for the free dance. They then scored a season’s best in their free dance, which was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Well done to both of them!
