Year 9 Wize Up Day
We started the day with a talk that prompted a mixed reaction from students, some finding it interesting, whilst others were a bit shocked. The relationship talk, somewhat uncomfortable for all, was nonetheless very relevant to Year 9 and left everyone with lots to talk about, having covered a wide range of topics. Afterwards, we went off to the studio ready for some street dance. This was enjoyed across the year group, with some very enthusiastic dancers showing their talent.Following the break came my favourite talk of the day. A man named Paul Hannaford came in with a very interesting, and at some points graphic, story to tell. He went over a multitude of topics centred around events from his own life, from dealing with horrific drug addictions to knife and gun violence. This was indisputably the most impactful talk of the day, laying bare the truly awful nature of drugs and all that comes with them.
After the powerful talk from Paul, we had a quick lunch break before an online safety lecture from Mr Keen. To round off the day, we settled down with some relaxing yoga, bringing the action-packed itinerary from today to a close. Many thanks to the speakers and organising team for such an insightful and fun enrichment opportunity.
