The Friends of DCGS
The Friends of DCGS is our school Parent Teacher Association (PTA). All families are automatically members of the Friends when their son or daughter joins our school.
The Friends have been an integral part of the school community for over sixty years and during that time we have raised significant funds to purchase equipment and resources to enhance the students’ educational experience and the school’s facilities. Some of the highlights include:
- Equipping the Drama & Music Studio with state-of-the-art technical lighting & sound equipment
- Refurbishing Science laboratories
- Creating new rooms for Foreign Languages’ oral assessments/one-to-one teaching
- Purchasing school minibuses
- Replacement of computer equipment for use in lessons
- Upgrading of school sports hall facilities
- Contribution towards the new Student Support Centre
However, the Friends do more than fundraising. We are here to provide closer links between home and school and to offer another way of bringing staff, parents and the local community together in support of DCGS. For example, the New Parents Social Evening in October is designed to allow Year 7 Parents to meet each other over dinner, learn more about the school and to catch a glimpse of the first few weeks of life as a Year 7 DCGS student. It is the only event we hold exclusively for Year 7 Parents. Similarly, the Year 7 and 8 discos, held in conjunction with Dr Challoner’s High School, are primarily for the students to socialise with one another collectively outside of the classroom, any funds raised are incidental.
Of course, the Friends would not be successful if it were not for the Parent Community who give their time each academic year to help at Friends events. As long-standing Parents reach the end of their time here at DCGS, we are invariably keen for new members to join.
