The school has always prided itself on the many curricular and co-curricular visits and opportunities that it offers to students. This anniversary year has been no exception. We believe that there is more to education than just academic learning and our Educational Visits programme is integral to this belief.
All Year 7s were given the opportunity to take part in the residential to the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA) where they met other new students, got to know their tutors and enjoyed the team building activities.
As part of Activity Week in May, Year 9 took part in one of the six visits on offer and these ranged from trekking in Morocco, canoeing down the Ardeche valley in France, or track cycling and watersports at the Calshot Activity Centre in Southampton. At the same time, Year 7 and 8 students took part in experiences closer to home including day visits to such venues as Bletchley Park, Whipsnade Zoo and Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre.
We offer a number of curriculum based visits, giving students the opportunity to further enhance and extend their learning in a particular subject during their time at Challoner's. These include the Year 9 History visit to the WW1 battlefields of France and Belgium; Year 10 Humanities visits to Berlin, Sicily and Krakow and our Art trip to Liverpool; language exchanges to France, Germany and Spain; and Sixth Form visits to Washington, Iceland and CERN, Switzerland. We also organise a programme of co-curricular visits, such as ski trips to Austria and sporting tours for cricket, football, hockey and rugby to destinations such as Holland, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The following images show just some of the trips that were offered to students this year.
We strongly believe that educational visits broadens our students' horizons by allowing them to encounter different cultures, perspectives and environments which in turn equip them with such skills as curiosity, empathy and resilience. Many students pinpoint these activities as being key highlights of their time at Challoner's. We believe that these opportunities should be accessible to all students and we endeavour to work closely with our external providers to keep costs as low as possible to encourage wider participation. See our annual calendar of activities below for further information.
