As GCSE results are published today I am delighted to report that our year 11 students have performed very well. The challenge of GCSE qualifications is to demonstrate a breadth of knowledge and understanding across the academic curriculum. This is a considerable undertaking and requires students to get to grips with a wide range of material which, in turn, provides the foundations for further study, employment and adult life. Having such a grounding is fundamental to being able to flourish and thrive in later life.
Our students have risen to this challenge admirably, with nearly 75% of the over 1800 qualifications taken being graded 7 or better. 30% of GCSEs sat were awarded the highest grade, a 9, demonstrating the high levels of excellence across the 186 students and 20 subjects. This is the result of diligence and resilience, allied to aspiration, that has sustained the students through the work they have done over the years, and especially through the revision and exam preparation season.
In addition to this academic excellence students have developed their character in a positive way through their education and development. For us as a school community this is at least as important as the academic progress they make. It helps them grow into young adults who can make the most of that academic progress to ensure they flourish personally and contribute effectively to our wider society. Examples of this include record numbers of students completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award, commitment to co-curricular activities such as sport, music and drama, and exploring more diverse opportunities to contribute.
Congratulations to this fine group of students on passing this milestone on their path to adulthood, and good luck for the future!
